Emergency visits
A dental emergency is a broken tooth, a knocked-out tooth or a toothache that won't ease, and some signs mean you should skip the dentist and call 911.
- Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.
Step by step
What happens
- 01
Step 1: Call us first
Call the office. If a tooth is knocked out, keep it moist and bring it. If we are closed, the message says what to do.
- 02
Step 2: We see you when the schedule allows
We keep no reserved emergency slots. We see you the same day when we can, and we say so plainly when we can't.
- 03
Step 3: We relieve the problem
Dr. Aiyar looks, numbs the area and treats what she can that day. Some problems need a second visit.
- 04
Step 4: We plan the rest
You hear the options and a written estimate before further treatment.
Good to know
Staying comfortable
Local numbing is used, and you can use nitrous oxide, headphones and your signal here as at any visit.
Ways to stay comfortableIf you wait
A cracked tooth or an infection can get worse, and pain that stops on its own may still need care. Call us if you aren't sure.
Risks and after-care
After an emergency visit we give written aftercare. Call us if swelling or pain grows. We are not a 24-hour facility, and when the office is closed, an emergency room is the place for serious injuries or swelling.
How it is billed
You get a written estimate before we start, with each step and its fee. We file claims with your plan where we can.

Questions about emergency visits
What counts as an emergency?
A broken or knocked-out tooth, a severe toothache, swelling in the mouth or gums, or a lost filling or crown with pain. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
What if I can't breathe or swallow?
Call 911 or go to an emergency room now. Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck is an emergency.
Are you open at night?
No. Our hours are on this site. Outside them, call the office for what to do and use an emergency room for urgent trouble.
Will I be seen the same day?
When the schedule allows. We keep no reserved slots, so call as early as you can.
