Tooth removal

Tooth removal is taking out a tooth that can't be repaired, and Dr. Aiyar does the simple ones herself.

Step by step

What happens

  1. 01

Step 1: We talk about the options

Dr. Aiyar shows you the X-ray and why the tooth can't be saved. You hear the alternatives.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Numbing

She numbs the area and waits. You can have nitrous oxide, headphones and a hand signal for a break.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The removal

She loosens and removes the tooth, tells you what she is doing, and pauses when you ask.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Aftercare

We give you written instructions and a number to call. We ask you to come back if the healing worries you.

Good to know

  • Staying comfortable

Local numbing and nitrous oxide are what we offer. We do not give IV sedation or sedation pills.

    Ways to stay comfortable
  • If you wait

An infected or broken tooth that stays can bring swelling, pain and trouble to the teeth beside it. Dr. Aiyar tells you how soon it should come out.

  • Risks and after-care

Some bleeding, soreness and swelling are common for a few days. Call us if bleeding doesn't stop, swelling grows, or pain gets worse after the third day. Swelling that spreads to your face or neck, or trouble breathing or swallowing, is an emergency: call 911.

  • How it is billed

You get a written estimate before we start, with each step and its fee. We file claims with your plan where we can.

Questions about tooth removal

Do you remove wisdom teeth?

We take out some that are simple. Teeth that are deep, tilted or close to a nerve are referred to an oral surgeon, who may offer sedation we don't.

Can I be sedated for this?

We offer local numbing and nitrous oxide. If you want more than that, we refer you to an oral surgeon or a dentist who offers it.

What can I eat afterward?

Soft, cool food for the first day or two. We give you a sheet with the details.

What about the gap?

Dr. Aiyar talks through ways to replace a tooth. If the best fit is an implant, she refers you to a dentist who places them.
